As a regular reader of my favorite magazine, The Economist I receive some of their newsletter. Today an interesting email landed in my inbox:

Our new Debate Series is an ongoing community forum where propositions about topical issues will be rigorously debated in the Oxford style by compelling Speakers. The first topic being debated is Education and The Economist is inviting our online audience to take part by voting on propositions, sharing views and opinions, and challenging the Speakers.

Five propositions have now been short-listed to address the most far-reaching and divisive aspects of the education debate covering: the place of foreign students in higher education; the position of corporate donors; and the role of technology in today’s classrooms. The highest ranking propositions will be debated, with the first launching on Oct 15th.

This looks very interesting and in my point of view The Economist is actually one of the few online players, that could pull a thing like this off and succeed. I'll be sure to participate! Especially the debate of the role of technology in today's classrooms is of a great importance to me, since I was in a "test class" using technological aids back in my high school days.

In the waiting time, why not check out the The Economist blogs? ;-)

After Yahoo's acquisition of MyBlogLog I hurried to the site and signed up.

And I must say I'm impressed, and therefore I've already bought a month's worth of membership ($3) and if I continue to like it I'll sure pay for a year ($25).

Besides being a service where like-minded bloggers can connect to and talk with each other, MyBlogLog also offers statistics (updated on an hourly basis!!) and some widgets for my blog.

I've added some of the widgets to this blog — see them here.

The best thing (besides the quickly updated statistics) is, that instead of creating a new blog at MyBloglog.com, I just type the address of my blog, and MyBlogLog recognized it as a WordPress powered blog.

Sweet and painless.

This time it's MyBlogLog a service aiming to connect like-minded bloggers in communities. You just add your blog by typing in the URL/URI. Apparently MyBlogLog also has a built in statistics module, that requires you to add a single JavaScript to your blog.
